1
והוה ארונא דיי בקרוי פלשתאי שבעא ירחין:
yrkhyn shbea plshthay bqrwy dyy arwna whwh
Yahweh’s ark was in the country of the Philistines seven months.
2
וקרו פלשתאי לכומריא ולקסמיא למימר מה נעביד לארונא דיי הודיעוננא במה נשלחיניה לאתריה:
lathryh nshlkhynyh bmh hwdyewnna dyy larwna nebyd mh lmymr wlqsmya lkwmrya plshthay wqrw
The Philistines called for the priests and the diviners, saying, “What shall we do with Yahweh’s ark? Show us how we should send it to its place.”

ואמרו אם אתון משלחין ית ארון אלהא דישראל לא תשלחון יתיה ריקן אלהין אתבא תתיבון קדמוהי קרבן אשמא בכן תתסון ויתרוח לכון למה לא תנוח מחתיה מנכון:
mnkwn mkhthyh thnwkh la lmh lkwn wythrwkh ththswn bkn ashma qrbn qdmwhy ththybwn athba alhyn ryqn ythyh thshlkhwn la dyshral alha arwn yth mshlkhyn athwn am wamrw
They said, “If you send away the ark of the God of Israel, don’t send it empty; but by all means return a trespass offering to him. Then you will be healed, and it will be known to you why his hand is not removed from you.”

ואמרו מה קרבן אשמא דנתיב קדמוהי ואמרו מנין טורני פלשתאי חמשא טחורי דהבא וחמשא עכברי דהבא ארי מחתא חדא שויא לכולהון ולטורניכון:
wlTwrnykwn lkwlhwn shwya khda mkhtha ary dhba ekbry wkhmsha dhba Tkhwry khmsha plshthay Twrny mnyn wamrw qdmwhy dnthyb ashma qrbn mh wamrw
Then they said, “What should the trespass offering be which we shall return to him?” They said, “Five golden tumors and five golden mice, for the number of the lords of the Philistines; for one plague was on you all, and on your lords.

ותעבדון צלמי טחוריכון וצלמי עכבריכון דמחבלין ית ארעא ותתנון קדם אלהא דישראל יקרא מאים תנוח מחתיה מנכון ומן טעותכון ומן ארעכון:
arekwn wmn Tewthkwn wmn mnkwn mkhthyh thnwkh maym yqra dyshral alha qdm wththnwn area yth dmkhblyn ekbrykwn wtslmy Tkhwrykwn tslmy wthebdwn
Therefore you shall make images of your tumors and images of your mice that mar the land; and you shall give glory to the God of Israel. Perhaps he will release his hand from you, from your gods, and from your land.

ולמה תיקרין ית לבכון כמא דיקרו מצראי ופרעה ית לבהון הלא כד אתפרע מנהון ובתר כן שלחינון ואזלו:
wazlw shlkhynwn kn wbthr mnhwn athpre kd hla lbhwn yth wpreh mtsray dyqrw kma lbkwn yth thyqryn wlmh
Why then do you harden your hearts as the Egyptians and Pharaoh hardened their hearts? When he had worked wonderfully among them, didn’t they let the people go, and they departed?

וכען סבו ועבידו עגלתא חדתא חדא ותרתן תורן מינקן די לא נגדא בניר ותיסרון ית תורתא בעגלתא ותתיבון בניהן מבתריהן לגיו:
lgyw mbthryhn bnyhn wththybwn begltha thwrtha yth wthysrwn bnyr ngda la dy mynqn thwrn wthrthn khda khdtha egltha webydw sbw wken
“Now therefore take and prepare yourselves a new cart and two milk cows on which there has come no yoke; and tie the cows to the cart, and bring their calves home from them;

ותסבון ית ארונא דיי ותתנון יתיה בעגלתא וית מני דהבא דאתיבתון קדמוהי קרבן אשמא תשוון בתיבותא מסטריה ותשלחון יתיה ויהך:
wyhk ythyh wthshlkhwn msTryh bthybwtha thshwwn ashma qrbn qdmwhy dathybthwn dhba mny wyth begltha ythyh wththnwn dyy arwna yth wthsbwn
and take Yahweh’s ark and lay it on the cart. Put the jewels of gold, which you return him for a trespass offering, in a box by its side; and send it away, that it may go.

ותחזון אם באורח תחומיה יסק לבית שמש מן קדמוהי אתעבידת לנא ית בישתא רבתא הדא ואם לא ונידע ארי לא מחתיה קריבת בנא עירוע הוא דהוה לנא:
lna dhwh hwa eyrwe bna qrybth mkhthyh la ary wnyde la wam hda rbtha byshtha yth lna athebydth qdmwhy mn shmsh lbyth ysq thkhwmyh bawrkh am wthkhzwn
Behold, if it goes up by the way of its own border to Beth Shemesh, then he has done us this great evil; but if not, then we shall know that it is not his hand that struck us. It was a chance that happened to us.”

ועבדו גבריא כן ונסיבו תרתין תורן מינקן ואסרונון בעגלתא וית בניהן כלו בביתא:
bbytha klw bnyhn wyth begltha wasrwnwn mynqn thwrn thrthyn wnsybw kn gbrya webdw
The men did so, and took two milk cows and tied them to the cart, and shut up their calves at home.

ושויאו ית ארונא דיי בעגלתא וית תיבותא וית עכברי דהבא וית צלמי טחוריהון:
Tkhwryhwn tslmy wyth dhba ekbry wyth thybwtha wyth begltha dyy arwna yth wshwyaw
They put Yahweh’s ark on the cart, and the box with the golden mice and the images of their tumors.

ואכוינא תורתא בארחא על אורח בית שמש בכבישא חדא אזלין מיזל ונעין ולא סטאה לימינא ולסמאלא וטורני פלשתאי אזלין בתריהון עד תחום בית שמש:
shmsh byth thkhwm ed bthryhwn azlyn plshthay wTwrny wlsmala lymyna sTah wla wneyn myzl azlyn khda bkbysha shmsh byth awrkh el barkha thwrtha wakwyna
The cows took the straight way by the way to Beth Shemesh. They went along the highway, lowing as they went, and didn’t turn away to the right hand or to the left; and the lords of the Philistines went after them to the border of Beth Shemesh.

ובית שמש חצדין חצד חטין במישרא וזקפו ית עיניהון וחזו ית ארונא וחדיאו למחזי:
lmkhzy wkhdyaw arwna yth wkhzw eynyhwn yth wzqpw bmyshra khTyn khtsd khtsdyn shmsh wbyth
The people of Beth Shemesh were reaping their wheat harvest in the valley; and they lifted up their eyes and saw the ark, and rejoiced to see it.

ועגלתא אתת לחקל יהושע די בבית שמש וקמא תמן ותמן אבנא רבתא וצלחו ית אעי עגלתא וית תורתא אסיקו עלתא קדם יי:
yy qdm eltha asyqw thwrtha wyth egltha aey yth wtslkhw rbtha abna wthmn thmn wqma shmsh bbyth dy yhwshe lkhql athth wegltha
The cart came into the field of Joshua of Beth Shemesh, and stood there, where there was a great stone. Then they split the wood of the cart and offered up the cows for a burnt offering to Yahweh.

ולואי אחיתו ית ארונא דיי וית תיבותא די עמיה די ביה מני דהבא ושויאו על אבנא רבתא וגברי בית שמש אסיקו עלון ונכיסו נכסת קודשין ביומא ההוא קדם יי:
yy qdm hhwa bywma qwdshyn nksth wnkysw elwn asyqw shmsh byth wgbry rbtha abna el wshwyaw dhba mny byh dy emyh dy thybwtha wyth dyy arwna yth akhythw wlway
The Levites took down Yahweh’s ark and the box that was with it, in which the jewels of gold were, and put them on the great stone; and the men of Beth Shemesh offered burnt offerings and sacrificed sacrifices the same day to Yahweh.

וחמשא טורני פלשתאי חזו ותבו לעקרון ביומא ההוא:
hhwa bywma leqrwn wthbw khzw plshthay Twrny wkhmsha
When the five lords of the Philistines had seen it, they returned to Ekron the same day.
17
ואלין טחורי דהבא דאתיבו פלשתאי קרבן אשמא קדם יי דאשדוד חד דעזה חד דאשקלון חד דגת חד דעקרון חד:
khd deqrwn khd dgth khd dashqlwn khd dezh khd dashdwd yy qdm ashma qrbn plshthay dathybw dhba Tkhwry walyn
These are the golden tumors which the Philistines returned for a trespass offering to Yahweh: for Ashdod one, for Gaza one, for Ashkelon one, for Gath one, for Ekron one;

ועכברי דהבא מנין כל קרוי פלשתאי לחמשא טורניא מקירוין כריכן ועד קירוי פצחיא ועד אבנא רבתא דאחיתו עלה ית ארונא דיי עד יומא הדין הא היא בחקל יהושע דמבית שמש:
shmsh dmbyth yhwshe bkhql hya ha hdyn ywma ed dyy arwna yth elh dakhythw rbtha abna wed ptskhya qyrwy wed krykn mqyrwyn Twrnya lkhmsha plshthay qrwy kl mnyn dhba wekbry
and the golden mice, according to the number of all the cities of the Philistines belonging to the five lords, both of fortified cities and of country villages, even to the great stone on which they set down Yahweh’s ark. That stone remains to this day in the field of Joshua of Beth Shemesh.

וקטל בגברי בית שמש על דחדיאו דחזו ארונא דיי כד גלי וקטל בסבי עמא שבעין גברא ובקהלא חמשין אלפי גברא ואתאבלו עמא ארי מחא יי בעמא מחא סגיאה:
sgyah mkha bema yy mkha ary ema wathablw gbra alpy khmshyn wbqhla gbra shbeyn ema bsby wqTl gly kd dyy arwna dkhzw dkhdyaw el shmsh byth bgbry wqTl
He struck of the men of Beth Shemesh, because they had looked into Yahweh’s ark, he struck fifty thousand seventy of the men. Then the people mourned, because Yahweh had struck the people with a great slaughter.
20
ואמרו גברי בית שמש מן יכיל למיקם קדם ארונא דיי אלהים קדישא הדין ולאידין אתר יסתלק מננא:
mnna ysthlq athr wlaydyn hdyn qdysha alhym dyy arwna qdm lmyqm ykyl mn shmsh byth gbry wamrw
The men of Beth Shemesh said, “Who is able to stand before Yahweh, this holy God? To whom shall he go up from us?”

ושלחו אזגדין לות יתבי קרית יערים למימר אתיבו פלשתאי ית ארונא דיי חותו אסיקו יתיה לותכון:
lwthkwn ythyh asyqw khwthw dyy arwna yth plshthay athybw lmymr yerym qryth ythby lwth azgdyn wshlkhw
They sent messengers to the inhabitants of Kiriath Jearim, saying, “The Philistines have brought back Yahweh’s ark. Come down and bring it up to yourselves.”
